If you’ve only got a weekend but want to experience the magic of Puglia, here’s your perfect mini-escape. Take advantage of the ideal Saturday/Sunday flights on Ryanair this December: fly to Bari on Saturday morning and return on Sunday afternoon or evening. If you go for the evening flight, you’ll have two full days to explore.
During this trip, you’ll base yourself in Bari’s city center at a comfortable 4-star hotel with breakfast included, giving you a convenient and relaxing home base. From there, you can take a full-day excursion to the stunning towns of Alberobello and Matera. Having been there myself, I can tell you that a couple of hours in each town is enough to get a real sense of their charm—they’re incredibly picturesque, but small enough to see the highlights without feeling rushed.
Here’s how to make it happen!
You’ll arrive on Saturday morning, ready for a quick but unforgettable weekend. Since it’s just one night, traveling with a backpack only is ideal but if you have luggage, don’t worry. Your hotel offers convenient luggage storage before check-in and after check-out, making it super easy to explore hands-free.
On your first day, dive into Bari! Wander the charming old town along the ancient city walls, and stroll along the lively promenade. Don’t miss Orecchiette Street, where you can watch nonnas hand-making pasta, and be sure to indulge in some of the best food in Italy; all at very reasonable prices. If you’re visiting between 6th and 26th December, you’ll also get to enjoy the Bari Christmas Market in the historic center.
On day two, your flight isn’t until 10 PM, giving you the perfect opportunity to take a full-day tour to Alberobello and Matera. In December, Alberobello is especially magical, with charming streets and trulli decorated for the holidays, adding an extra festive touch to your visit. The tour departs right from the city center, just a short walk from your hotel, and brings you back to Bari by around 6 PM. That gives you plenty of time to grab your luggage, head to the airport, and enjoy a relaxed two-hour window before your flight, all without feeling rushed.

Why add the Alberobello & Matera Tour?
Both Alberobello and Matera are UNESCO World Heritage sites and incredibly picturesque, making them must-see stops in the region.
While it’s technically possible to visit on your own, logistics can be tricky: reaching Alberobello by train is possible but infrequent, and getting to Matera requires a transfer through Bari.
On a tour, all the transportation is handled for you—the bus takes you to both towns and brings you back to Bari in time for your flight, letting you enjoy the sights stress-free.
