Malta enjoys one of the best climates in the Mediterranean. With over 300 days of sunshine each year, it’s a perfect destination for sun-seekers. Summers (June to September) are hot and dry, often reaching 30°C+, while winters are mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 10°C. Spring and autumn offer warm days and cooler evenings, ideal for exploring the island without the summer crowds.
I’ll try to give you a better idea on a month-by-month basis and what each month in Malta is best for.
🌧 January – Coldest and Wettest Month
January is usually the coldest and wettest month of the year in Malta. Temperatures hover around 10–14°C, and it can be windy and rainy.
It’s a great time for cultural sightseeing, indoor activities, and hiking if the weather allows.
This is the quietest period in Malta, but everything remains open. Stay central — around Valletta or Sliema — for convenience.

🌤 February & March – Cool but Sunny Days
February and March are still cool, but recent years have brought some lovely sunny spells.
Expect daytime temperatures between 12–16°C — ideal for exploring historical sites and countryside walks.
🌬 April & May – Windy, Warming Up, and the First Swims
The days start getting longer, and you can feel that summer is on its way. April and May are the windiest months in Malta and the gusts can be strong!
April can still bring showers, but May is mostly dry and warm enough for swimming.
This year (2025), I had my first swim on the 1st of May. The sea is still chilly, but daytime weather is perfect for outdoor plans.
Pack a light jumper for evenings.
☀️ June – One of the Best Month to Visit Malta
By June, it’s full-on summer mode! Everyone’s swimming, having barbecues, and enjoying long sunny days.
This is my favourite month in Malta — stable weather, blue skies, and the first heatwave by late June, often reaching 35°C+.
You won’t need a jumper, even at night.
🔥 July & August – Hot, Sunny, and Busy
July and August are Malta’s hottest months, with clear skies, high UV levels, and barely any rain.
Temperatures often reach the mid-30s, and humidity can be high.
In August, we sometimes get a short rain shower around the third week, but it doesn’t last long.
Perfect for beach holidays and boat trips, just stay hydrated and pack sunscreen!
🌦 September – Still Hot but Unpredictable
September remains very warm (around 30°C) but can bring occasional short storms or heavy rain.
It’s still busy with tourists, and locals keep swimming until the third week of September.
After the 21st of September (a public holiday), kids return to school and beaches become quieter, a great time for relaxed visits.
🍂 October – Warm Days, Quiet Beaches
October is one of Malta’s best months for pleasant weather without the crowds.
Daytime temperatures reach 28°C, and the sea stays above 20°C, so swimming is still popular.
Evenings are mild (around 24°C), and you might want a light cardigan, but it’s often unnecessary.
Recent years have seen less rain in October than in September.
🌤 November – Mild and Changing
November can be unpredictable. As of 12 November 2025, it’s been sunny and warm (22–24°C) with only two short rainy days.
The sea temperature is still around 23°C, and people are still swimming!
Evenings cool down to 18–20°C, and by the end of the month, it starts to feel more like autumn.
🎄 December – Mild Winter and Christmas Sunshine
December stays quite warm up to Christmas Day — around 18°C during the day with lots of sunshine.
Evenings drop to 14–16°C, and rain is occasional.
After Christmas, it usually turns cooler, around 12–14°C by day and 8–10°C at night.
Even so, Malta’s winter is still bright and mild compared to most of Europe.

Malta truly offers something special every month of the year — from quiet cultural escapes in winter to beach adventures in summer.
No matter when you visit, the weather in Malta is one of the island’s biggest charms.
