As the festive season approaches, one of Malta’s most beloved Christmas experiences returns: Natalis Notabilis 2025, set to take place in the historic streets of Rabat from Friday, 5th to Sunday, 14th December 2025.
This year marks the 7th edition of the event, which has firmly established itself as Malta’s closest equivalent to a traditional Christmas market.
What to Expect at Natalis Notabilis
More than 90 stalls will line the town’s narrow, cobbled lanes, offering everything from handmade crafts and unique gifts to traditional Maltese holiday treats. The atmosphere is festive and warm, with twinkling festive street decor, mulled wine, and live entertainment filling the air.
For visitors, this means more than just shopping. You’ll find charming features such as a Live Nativity Trail, specially staged in the secret garden of a Franciscan friary, and local delicacies like qagħaq tal-għasel (honey rings) and and imbuljuta, a warm chestnut-based drink that’s a true Maltese Christmas classic. If you prefer to sit down and enjoy your Christmas treats, look out for Santa Lucija Cafeteria.
Adding to the festive magic, there will be a Christmas concert at St Mary of Jesus Church on Friday, 12th December, starting at 7:30 PM, performed by the Joy Gospel Singers. Expect soulful performances that capture the holiday spirit. This concert sells out every year, so be sure to book your spot in advance; entry is against a donation of €10.

What I Recommend
- Visit on a weekday evening if you prefer it quieter. Weekends and public holidays tend to be busier.
- Carry some cash. Most stalls accept cards, but it’s always handy to have cash for smaller purchases or local treats.
- Dress warmly. Evenings in December can be chilly.
- For international visitors: Skip driving. Parking is limited and often far from the market. Use public transport or book a Bolt/taxi for a hassle-free experience.
- While in Rabat, don’t miss pastizzi from Serkin. This snack bar serves some of the best flaky, traditional Maltese pastizzi on the island.
