As an island girl, I’ve always been drawn to the Greek islands, and Santorini quickly became one of my favourite European destinations. The dramatic landscapes, breathtaking sunsets, and iconic architecture made staying in a Santorini cave hotel with caldera views an absolute must. I found the perfect spot in Imerovigli, complete with an outdoor tub and that dreamlike caldera scenery that makes Santorini so unforgettable.
Imerovigli is a quiet and charming village perched above the caldera. Visiting in early May was perfect; the weather was warm, prices were lower, and the crowds were far smaller than during peak summer.
The hotel itself exceeded all expectations. I booked the Deluxe Cave Suite, and trust me, it’s worth the extra €100 per night for two people. The room opens directly onto the caldera, giving you that picture-perfect view of the Aegean Sea and Santorini’s magical sunset. Stepping onto the terrace and seeing that view for the first time was a true “pinch me, I’ve arrived” travel moment.

The cave suite was stylish, and thoughtfully designed, with modern amenities and plenty of natural light. Sitting on the terrace while watching the caldera was simply unforgettable. What I loved most was the sense of privacy; our suite was tucked down the stairs and to the left, so no one walked past our terrace, which can be an issue at some properties in Fira and Oia.
Being in Imerovigli also meant easy access to Fira, scenic cliffside walks to Skaros Rock, and some of the island’s best restaurants. Plus, it’s the quietest of the towns, perfect if you want to be central but away from the crowds.
With a bit of planning and traveling slightly off-peak, staying in a Santorini cave hotel with caldera views doesn’t have to break the bank.

Other Dreamy Stays in Santorini for Every Budget
Santorini is packed with places to stay, and this list is just a small slice of what’s out there. I’ve sifted through plenty of options to pick the ones I’d personally choose based on my own tastes. If you’re planning your trip, I’d especially recommend staying somewhere along the stretch from Fira to Oia — Fira, Imerovigli, and Oia are all great choices.
- Casa Sigala sunset in Oia – A charming two-bedroom house perfectly positioned for breathtaking sunsets in Oia, offering stunning views at a surprisingly good price.
- Mi Casa in Oia – A budget-friendly apartment right in the heart of Oia. It doesn’t include sea views or a hot tub, but the central location and excellent price make it a great value choice.
- Salvatore Villas in Imerovigli – A spacious two-bedroom villa with an outdoor hot tub, featuring beautiful sea views and a peaceful sunrise.
- Suropo Suites in Imerovigli – Stylish, modern suites offering caldera and sunset views right from the outdoor hot tub. As a relatively new property, it still offers great value for money and consistently receives excellent guest reviews.
- Georgia Pelekanou Studios in Fira – Modern, furnished studio apartments in the heart of Fira. It’s an ideal base if you’re relying on public transportation, since you really can’t get more central. The studios are budget-friendly, and both the caldera and sea views are just a short walk away.
- Villa Thiranthemis in Fira – An adults-only property featuring spacious apartments and a large outdoor pool with stunning sea views. Many guests even say it rivals 5-star hotels they’ve stayed in — but at a much more budget-friendly price.
